Closure Update

April 3, 2020

We have extended our closure to April 30 to follow the recommendations of state health officials.

However, in an effort to serve our community, we have made the decision to open the retro motel to healthcare professionals who need a place to safely quarantine. We will be donating half of the revenue from these reservations back to the local health system’s foundation. If you are a healthcare professional and would like to make a reservation, please call the hotel at 319-277-1161.

A letter from our owner, Mark Kittrell:

Dear Guests: It’s with heavy hearts we have decided to temporarily suspend new bookings at The Black Hawk Hotel to protect you and our staff during COVID-19. Rest assured, our small but mighty historic hotel has weathered many tough times in its 167 years; we will get through this too.

Along with many other small businesses, we are coordinating with local and state health officials’ recommendations on when to reopen (currently March 31, 2020). We will continue to answer calls and emails during this time, so please feel free to reach out.

One way you can support our small, independent hotel is by purchasing a gift certificate for a future stay—they never expire! Just call or email us and we’ll mail it to you.

And to our country, community, guests and staff alike: our hearts are with all of you during this tough time. We look forward to hosting you back at The Black Hawk soon!

As it has always been, the safety and security of our guests and staff remains our highest priority. We continue to coordinate with local and state health officials to ensure your safety.

As an independent hotel, we are aiming to provide maximum flexibility in our COVID-19 response so you can make travel decisions that are right for you.

We will continue to keep this web page updated as more information is made available by local and state health officials.

 

Cancellation Policy

We remain committed to offering you flexible booking options. Given these unique circumstances, we are making additional adjustments to our individual booking policies to give you extra peace of mind:

-Existing reservations: All reservations booked direct with The Black Hawk Hotel that are scheduled for arrival prior to June 30, 2020, can be rescheduled or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival.

-New reservations: All reservations you make direct with The Black Hawk Hotel that are booked between now and June 30, 2020 for any future arrival date can be rescheduled or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival.

This revised cancellation policy excludes Sturgis Falls weekend (June 25-28), where a 30 day cancellation policy is in place.

 

Cleaning and Guest Safety

In addition to our normal cleaning procedures, we are committed to additional sanitizing/disinfecting throughout the hotel, in common areas and in guest rooms. Additionally, we will prevent back-to-back reservations in guest rooms for the safety of our guests and housekeeping staff.

 

Amenities and Services Changes

For our guest’s safety, we have closed the fitness center and discontinued concierge services until further notice. Following health official’s guidance, we expect Bar Winslow and Farm Shed will close in the coming days. All room rates will be adjusted to reflect this change (no breakfast will be included in hotel stays after Farm Shed’s impending closure).

 

Hotel Hours

The Black Hawk Hotel is committed to staying open as long as approved by health officials. We aim to be a safe haven during this time of uncertainty. We are continuing to take new reservations.

The front desk is staffed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. A staff person is on-call 24 hours a day, and all phone calls are answered 24 hours a day (both internal guest calls to the front desk, and external calls). We are committed to serving our guests and providing them with the best experience possible.
